The winners and more for Valentines Day

14 February 2010

And now, for the moment you all have been waiting for...(trumpets blaring)...the winner of the Valentines Day Poem Writing Contest!!! And the winner is...mandylove96!! She actually used a song title in each line of her poem. Cool, huh?? Check it out! (*NOTE: The song titles are in caps and bolded*)

SOME HEARTS may have the stars on their side

But I know that YOU BELONG WITH ME tonight.

Hoping this LOVE STORY will last forever

I know that TODAY WAS A FAIRYTALE, its true

I will tell you ONE TIME

I see you LIKE A STAR in the sky

People always say TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE

And now I believe it, you're ONE IN A MILLION

So remember that I'M YOURS

And that love is as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4

Isn't that awesome?? I thought so. And we had another entry which was so good I had to give it credit. So, winning Honorable Mention is Kira, who wrote "The Valentines Way." Here it is!!

Roses bought,

Perfume sprayed,
Make it special
For only one day

Seats reserved
A big array
Show them devotion
For only one day

Wouldn’t it be something,
Wouldn’t it be special,
If showing love
Was done continually

Make it a goal, everyday
To share some love,
The Valentines way

And THAT was also a good poem!! Congratulations mandylove96 and Kira for winning 1st Place and Honorable Mention. You guys are awesome writers!! And for anyone else who either wrote a poem and didn't win, or if you just didn't know about it until now, keep writing!! This will not be the last writing contest on this blog, I can tell you that!!

And one last thing - my entry for the contest, although I cannot take credit for this...

1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

- 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13

And that is the true meaning of love. Keep that in mind this Valentines Day, through the chocolates and flowers and valentines, know what it truly means to LOVE.

Happy Valentines Day!!

Having problems with writer's block...

02 February 2010

Have any of you ever had writer’s block?? Well, in case you don’t know, writer’s block is when you basically can’t think of ANYTHING to write. Everything you try just doesn’t work. It sounds horrible, doesn’t it?

Anyway, I was having writers block a few weeks ago. I was trying to write a paper for school, but I just could not think of any way to start it out…or how to finish it…or how to write the middle. Basically, I was in trouble! So, I decided to turn this burden for me into a blessing for you. I am going to give you all a few pointers on how to get rid of writers block. I wish I could ensure that this will never happen to you, but I can’t, because we live in a sinful world. So, read on, so that the next time you get writer’s block, you will know what to do!

1. Do NOT keep trying to write, wasting hours and hours either on the computer or at your desk. This will only further your problem, AND frustrate YOU.

2. Get outside and play! Take a walk with your sister, play basketball with some friends, etc. Exercise can help your brain work better, plus it will refresh you.

3. Write in your journal. Did you start a journal from any one of the categories I gave you in my post? Now is the time to begin! REMEMBER: If your journal is what you are having writer’s block over, it can be simply cured. You can write in your journal about ANYTHING. In fact, one time I even wrote in my journal ABOUT how I could not think of anything to write in my journal! Funny, huh?

4. Help your mom or a family member with some chores. Now is a good time to catch up on any of your responsibilities which you missed! And if you have not missed ANY chores (which I highly doubt!), then help your mom with some extra work. It’s never too early to prepare for when you have your own family!

5. Do some other homework that does not involve writing, or is perhaps on another topic. This may help your brain get a little ‘un-stuck.’ If you have already finished all your homework, do some extra-credit work when you have the extra time!

6. Play with your little siblings. Put together a puzzle with your sister, make a fort with your brother, etc. They will have fun, you will be helping your mom at the same time, and you might even get something out of it yourself!

7. Cook! Offer to help your mom with dinner, make muffins for a sick neighbor, whatever you feel like would be good. Cooking is very fun (for me), and I think many of you are fond of it too. If you don’t like cooking as much, now is a good time to give it another chance!

8. Visit my blog! (You don’t have to, but if you want, well, I’m not holding you back!)

9. Do art! Paint a picture, make a sculpture with clay, anything you enjoy doing art-wise. Art can be very helpful while trying to get rid of writer’s block.

10. Whatever you choose to do, do it all to the glory of God.

Well, that’s about it! I better follow my own rules and go do my science homework. I hope these tips will help you be your own doctor when YOU get writer’s block. Happy writing!
